San Bernardino County Board Meeting Recap
Oxford Prep Chino Valley supporters in attendance at this afternoon’s San Bernardino County Board Meeting learned that the time spent appealing with the county would be short lived. In a unanimous vote stemming from a motion by Trustee Laura A. Mancha, the County Board Members opted not to receive the Oxford Prep Chino Valley petition or establish a timeline for review.
Trustee Alen Ritchie explained how the county’s decision to deny receiving the appeal charter has the potential to save Oxford Prep valuable time when it comes to deciding on what’s next:
…if we went through the entire appeal program, we almost certainly would have had to deny the appeal. By doing it this way, by not acknowledging receipt of the Prep Academy petition that then gives Oxford Prep the opportunity to immediately go to the State Board and/or to Superior Court…If we followed the normal procedure it would not be until March that any of those things could be done.
Hardy Brown II, Vice President of the San Bernardino County Board of Education shared, “I really want the parents to understand that the community understands that you do have a passion for your kids and that you want the best for your kids and I’m hoping that something can work out.”
While all options for the next steps in the Chino Valley appeal are being considered by Oxford’s Board of Directors, parents are invited to attend a Tuesday, January 10th Update Meeting with Interim Executive Director Pascoe and Interim Managing Director Crowe. These meetings begin at 9:00 AM at South Orange County, followed by a 2:00 PM parent meeting at the Saddleback campus. A 6:00 PM parent meeting will be offered at our Chino Valley campus.
The purpose of these meetings is to review recent changes in our school organization, discuss the FCMAT findings and Oxford Prep’s corrective actions, and to provide essential updates on the state of the renewal. Additionally, your new executive administration team will be available to answer your questions.
